F/W Lip Colors
Winter is always a perfect time to perk up your pout! Create a high fashion finish with minimum effort with my five top A/W 16 lipsticks.
TOP TIP: If time allows, prep your lips 15 mins prior to a bold lip application. Start with a lip scrub, you can mix sugar with olive oil for a homemade version, and massage in a circular motion around lips before removing with a damp cotton pad. Apply a thick balm and allow to nourish for 15 mins. Blot away excess with a tissue before applying your lipstick.
Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick in So Marilyn
No lipstick line-up could be complete without a Charlotte Tilbury mention. My current favourite for the season is ‘So Marilyn’ which is the most gorgeously flattering red that looks great straight from the bullet for a strong, grownup red, or pressed into lips with your fingertips for more of a lip stain finish. The matte consistency really emphasises lips and the red tone is really warming against even the palest of complexions, like mine! £23; charlottetilbury.com
Burberry Lip Velvet in Oxblood
Fresh off the Burberry Runways this deliciously deep Burgundy lip colour will give maximum impact. Not for the faint hearted though as this is BOLD and unforgiving. Keep the rest of your make up look minimal (think glossy natural looking skin, lashes and blush with a ‘subtle’ contour under the cheekbone, a bit of a highlight…) for those needing a bit of a lip contouring beforehand use the matching Lip Definer- Oxblood No.14 to create symmetry and definition then applying lipstick with a lip brush to make life easier. £26 and £15.50; Burberry.com
MAC cosmetics Lipstick in Chilli
As the name suggests, this lipstick is HOT! So hot in fact, that it always seems to be out of stock. if you are lucky enough to get your hands on this shade, it will be a much loved makeup bag addition. It’s a creamy, long wearing reddy brown shade that has a definite WOW factor. You will be constantly asked ‘what lipstick are you wearing?’. £15.50; maccosmetics.com
Estée Lauder Kendall Jenner Pure Colour Envy Matte Sculpting Lipstick in Restless
I probably don’t even need to tell you about this one! I’m sure you have read about it everywhere, but it really is BEYOND amazing! An electric party orange with a pinky undertone. It’s fun, young and very cool… all the things we want to be ; ) £25; selfridges.com
Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick in Raison
With all the sass and sophistication of its designer counterparts, this is a great choice for those of you who suffer from dry, winter lips (like me) as it’s rich in emollients for great lip conditioning. The colour is a more wearable bold for those wanting ‘statement’ with a little less edge. £6.99; superdrug.com
